A recent Mori poll revealed that only 19 per cent of 15 to 24-year-olds feel they know anything about Parliament and how it works. And only 9 per cent feel they know what their local council is responsible for. The same poll found that only 35 per cent of the young people surveyed felt they actually knew what their rights were. Another study of 90,000 14-year-olds living in 28 different countries found that English young people have less understanding of democratic processes than their counterparts in other countries, most of which have citizenship education.
